Trust building
Most people around the world no longer receive their basic life training only in the context of an extended family, clan, or tribe. In times past, those relationally closest to their young provided them an understanding of the world and their place in it. In recent times however, a larger, global community with no stake in these children, now has outsized influence in their lives through technology. This has had devastating results.
It is not surprising that people are losing their sense of how to live harmoniously with others. People today struggle to understand how to make life choices in relational context— especially so in a society where the larger community has such an outsized say in their personal choices. These wide varieties of opinions and perspectives inundate and overwhelm people. It seems impossible to sort the good from the bad. Eventually, the drive for personal satisfaction and autonomy, and the reality of needing support and living in-community clash. These tear at a person than unify the guiding factors that enhance living and bolster success and satisfaction.
The writers of this course approached the scripture to find life wisdom for this struggle. Not only did they find relevant truth. They also discovered that the struggle to build healthy individuals in supportive communities is a timeless struggle—and it is a struggle exacerbated by technology. The writers have come to believe that building healthy, strong, reciprocal, relational bonds is a primary work in the life of every believer in Jesus Christ.
